COVID-19 Utility Disconnect Payment Options

For the past six-months, Governor Holcomb, through executive order, prohibited utilities from disconnecting services to customers.  The moratorium expired on August 14th.  Beginning August 26th, the City of Madison will be enforcing disconnects for customers in order to collect delinquent balances for trash, water and sewer charges. Disconnects for downtown will be on August 26th, and hilltop disconnections will be on September 16th.

Customers who are disconnected will need to make a payment to have services reconnected.

Payment Plan Options

SCENARIO #1

  1. If your required payment is paid today, there will be no $25 fee charged for the re-connection of your water service.
  2. To calculate your required payment: If your past due amount owed is less than $80.00, you will be required to pay the full amount that is past due (shown as previous balance on your bill) today to have your service reinstated.  Your current charges will still be due on September 10th, 2020, and if they are not paid, you will be disconnected on September 30th and be subject to the $25.00 Re-connection Fee.

EXAMPLE: On the SAMPLE BILL #1:

- Your previous balance (past due balance) is $62.89

- Your Current billing is $37.83 for a total due of $100.72

- On Disconnect day (August 26th) you will need to pay $62.89 to reconnect your water service and the remaining current billing of $37.83 will need to be paid by September 10, 2020 or that amount ($37.83) will become past due and you will be subject to disconnection on September 30, 2020.

SCENARIO #2

  1. If your required payment is paid today, there will be no $25 fee charged for the re-connection of your water service.
  2. To calculate your required payment: If your past due amount owed is more than $80.00, you will have Two (2) Options to reconnect your service:
  1. Option One:
  • You can pay your entire past due amount today (August 26th) and have your service reinstated.  Your current charges will still be due on September 10th, 2020, and if they are not paid, you will be disconnected on September 30th and be subject to the $25.00 Re-connection Fee.
  1. Option Two:
  • You can pay one-half (1/2) of the amount that is past due today (shown as previous balance on your bill) to have your service reinstated.   Your current charges (shown as current billing on your bill) will still be due on September 10th, 2020.
  • If both payments are made on time, the second one-half of your payment and your next monthly bill will both be due on the next due date of October 10, 2020.
  • If both are not paid on time, you will be disconnected on September 30th and be subject to the $25.00 Re-connection Fee and owe the remaining one-half (1/2) of the amount that was not paid on August 26, 2020.

EXAMPLE: On the SAMPLE BILL #2:

- Your previous balance (past due balance) is $84.38

- Your Current billing is $46.07 for a total due of $130.45

- On Disconnect day (August 26th) you will need to pay $42.19 (1/2 of previous balance) to reconnect your water service and the remaining current billing of $46.07 will need to be paid by September 10, 2020 or that amount ($46.07) plus your other one-half (1/2) owed will become past due and you will be subject to disconnection on September 30, 2020.  If both payments are made on time, on your next due date, October 10, 2020, you will owe the remaining one-half (1/2) that was unpaid ($42.19) plus your current bill.
