City of Madison Takes Action Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Madison, IN – The City of Madison is taking measures to keep city employees and the community safe by restricting public access to City Hall and suspending all City of Madison Parks Department Programs.

“Public health and safety are our top priority and measures must be taken to help curb the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Bob Courtney.

In accordance with recommendations made by the governor’s office and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the City of Madison has put the following procedures in place effective immediately. On April 6th, the city will re-evaluate risk exposure to determine extending these procedures.

  • The City of Madison is restricting public access to all city buildings. Each department will remain open and will be able to address questions or concerns. City Hall will be closed for public access, but available for essential business with appointments made in advance.
  • Payments to the City of Madison for utilities or transactions made through the Clerk-Treasurers office should be made using the drive-through payment center at City Hall.
  • All City of Madison public meetings will be conducted as usual. Public access will be limited to 10 individuals; however, a majority of these meetings will be live-streamed on the City of Madison’s Facebook page and/or available to watch live on MetroNet Channel 15 and Spectrum Channel 377. Please feel free to contact the council person for your district with any questions regarding city business or concerns.
  • All activities at the Brown Gym are suspended and the building will be closed to the public. Dog park passes and pool passes can be purchased by appointment only.
  • The City of Madison youth baseball and softball season has been postponed. Questions should be directed to Scott Davidson at 812-493-9840.
  • All activities at the Senior Citizen Center have been suspended and the building will be closed. The senior dances have also been cancelled. Senior Prom scheduled for April 16th is postponed; a new date has not been set.
  • All city organized activities at Rucker Sports Complex have been suspended.
  • Sunrise Golf Course will remain open. The snack bar will be open for carryout only.
  • At this time, the city campground will open as planned on April 1st.
  • To continue supporting our small businesses on Main Street and downtown, the Comfort Station and Bicentennial Park bathrooms will be open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The restrooms will be cleaned twice daily.
  • All city parks and shelters will remain open to be used by the public at your discretion.

  • All city provided utilities such as trash, recycling, water, and sewer, as well as maintenance of streets and sidewalks, will continue to be provided.
  • The City of Madison Police Department and the City of Madison Fire Department will continue to operate as usual and will continue to provide for the safety needs of our community.

The procedures listed are some immediate steps that have been taken to reduce the risk of exposure in public spaces. Please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for all practices we would like the citizens of Madison to consider.
