At approximately 6pm, on Tuesday April 28th the City of Madison Fire and Police Departments responded to the 1200 block of West Main Street for the initial report of a possible structure fire.
First arriving units reported heavy black smoke coming from a small shed. Access was gained to the structure and the fire was extinguished. The structure housed a water pumping system that supplied the Madison State Hospital and the Indiana Department of Corrections. The structure itself was undamaged, however the electrical system was severely damaged.
The cause is under investigation by the City of Madison Fire Department. The fire department was advised by Madison Water Department officials that the pump doesn’t service any residential customers and they shouldn’t see any changes in water pressures.
