Jan grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from high school and junior college in Kansas. She has a B.A. from Concordia, Fort Wayne and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She was recruited by Cummins, Inc. and retired in 2007 after 26 years in management.
She was transferred by Cummins to Madison in 1992 and has lived in District 1 since - commuting to Columbus after the Cummins plant was closed. Jan chaired Madison’s Bicentennial celebration in 2009. She has served on many boards and volunteers with Cornerstone, HMI and the History Center. She attends Christ Episcopal Church and is currently president of the board of the Historic Eleutherian College.
