Walking, Hiking and Bike Trails

Madison's terrain has allowed our community to have a beautiful place for trails fit for public hiking, walking, and biking. From the paved path of Hatcher Hill, to Heritage Trail and everything in between, there are several places to go and choose from if you're itching to get outdoors and breathe the fresh air!

The Heritage Trail is a paved pathway for jogging, walking, biking, and hiking. The trail connects the western portion of downtown Madison with the hilltop and overlooks the Ohio River. The trail is open dawn to dusk.

Hatcher Hill Trail was completed in 2016 as part of the America's Best Communities competition and is a paved pathway between downtown and the hilltop on Madison's east end. Once a road used for travel up and down the hill, this pathway is now used by many golf carts, bikers, runners and walker alike. Parking is available at the City of Madison Garage on North Walnut Street.

Another local spot is Clifty State Park! Brimming with captivating views, this state park offers 10 trails ranging in levels of difficulty from extremely rugged, to very easy so all can enjoy the outdoors!
