Madison Redevelopment Commission Approves Four New Destination Madison Projects
The City of Madison Redevelopment Commission approved $800,000 to support funding four new Destination Madison projects. The projects include the Madison/Hanover Connector Trail, the Ohio Theatre Façade and Marquee Restoration, the Riverfront Super Overlook, and the HMI/Bicentennial Parking Improvement project.
In July 2021, the city submitted a Destination Madison strategic plan to improve the quality of life in Madison and enhance our regional appeal. In September, the city was awarded $2.6 million in READI grant funds and received approval to fund two destination development projects; the Mulberry Street Corridor and the 421 Gateway project. Mayor Bob Courtney worked with the city's economic and redevelopment department to maximize the remaining grant dollars by focusing on shovel-ready projects.
“We are excited to announce the four new Destination Madison projects that will leverage Redevelopment Commission dollars 7.5 to 1 and create nearly $7 million in additional investment in Madison,” said Mayor Courtney. “Our continued focus on public-private partnerships has proven successful, and we are thankful to the Redevelopment Commission for their support of this investment in our community,” said Mayor Bob Courtney.
The four projects will utilize funding from the READI grant, the City of Madison Redevelopment Commission, the Southern Indiana Redevelopment Authority, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Next Level Trails grant, the Friends of the Ohio Theatre, the Madison Riverfront Development Committee, and private fundraising.
The previously approved projects are anticipated to be completed by late spring of 2023. Three of the four new projects are estimated to be completed by late fall of 2023, with the remaining project anticipated to be completed in 2024.
