City of Madison Opens Second Round of Paul Bruhn Grant for Applications

Madison, Indiana (August 28, 2024) – On May 26, 2022, the City of Madison announced the acceptance of a $325,000 National Park Service (NPS) Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant. After completing all of the National Park Service requirements for the grant application and review process, today, the city opens its second round of applications through the Paul Bruhn Grant Program with an application deadline of September 30, 2024.

The Paul Bruhn Grant Program was established to assist low-to-moderate income property owners complete exterior rehabilitation or the rehabilitation of dilapidated structures. It is funded by the Historic Preservation Fund as administered by the National Park Service, Department of Interior. Income verification is required.

“I encourage anyone who needs exterior repairs on their home in the historic district but may find the costs challenging to apply for this program. The Paul Bruhn Grant offers a unique opportunity, as it does not require property owners to provide matching funds, making it more accessible for those who need it,” said City of Madison Director of Planning Nicole M. Schell.

Properties eligible for funding through this program will only include properties already listed as contributing to Madison’s Historic Register District and Madison’s National Historic Landmark District. A program guidebook has been created to outline the eligibility requirements of the program.

“Our PACE Grant program has delivered spectacular results, and this new funding source is an important step toward making our historic preservation resources available to more residents. The investment these programs are spurring in our city is unprecedented, allowing us to continue working towards a clean, safe, and beautiful Madison. I encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney.
