Emergency Evacuation Advisory

Mayor Bob G. Courtney has declared a Local State of Emergency, effective Friday, April 4, 2025, due to dangerous and rapidly rising floodwaters and the potential of flash flooding.

Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas are encouraged to evacuate. This voluntary evacuation is advised out of an abundance of caution to protect life and property. Please consider relocating to higher ground or a safe location as soon as possible.

 Shelter Location

  • The Salvation Army, located at Jefferson and Main Street (331 E. Main Street) will open at 5 PM, Friday, April 4, 2025 for displaced residences.

The Red Cross will staff the location and provide temporary shelter and assistance to evacuees.

If you do not have transportation to reach the shelter, please contact Dave with RSVP at 812-599-1495 to coordinate assistance. 

Do not leave animals behind. If you do not have a safe place for your pets, they can be taken to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter on the hilltop, 2727 Hannah Drive. Please call Dispatch at 812-265-3347 (Option 2) to make arrangements with the Animal Control Officer. 

Further updates, including road closures and emergency resources, will be shared on the City of Madison’s official website and social media channels. 

This voluntary evacuation is being issued for your safety. Please act quickly, check in with neighbors, and follow official instructions as they become available.
